Oakley House Children’s Home admits children through a referral process managed by social services.
Scroll down to learn more about the process, or visit the dedicated page on our website to get all the information you need as well as the criteria for admission.
A Pre-admission and Risk assessment are conducted by social services, along with a discussion by an internal panel about the suitability of each placement.
After a successful pre-admission process, Social Services will provide us with a referral enabling us to admit the young persons to our safe and secure accommodation.
If there is a place available, a key worker is appointed who spends time with the child or young person to explore their understanding & expectations of the placement.
An induction process then begins, which can include an overnight stay. If there are no vacancies at the time of referral, the child’s name can be placed on a waiting list.
Oakley House Children’s Home will accept referrals where:
The home provides residential care for young people aged between 6–17 years old who are looked after and in the care of the Local Authority.
Young people who may be difficult to place due to complex needs, emotional or behavioural difficulties, trauma, low self-esteem, risks around exploitation (CSE/CCE), gangs, missing episodes, or sibling group needs.
The placing authority provides relevant statutory documents and key information, including current concerns and risks. The home completes a referral assessment and impact risk assessment to decide if the placement is suitable.
Young people who would benefit from stability, a planned placement, and tailored support, with clear objectives agreed during admission to help them progress to their next step (including fostering, semi-independence, or independence).
An assessment process is in place: information is gathered prior to placement, referrals are assessed, suitability is reviewed (including an internal review within 72 hours), and placement planning with the local authority is arranged within the first seven days where appropriate.
